October yields the last crops. Harvest before frost, store properly, accept some loss. The farmer harvests by date, the poet harvests by first frost, both race the cold.

Final harvest:

Tomatoes: pick green before frost, ripen indoors

Peppers: harvest all, before frost

Eggplant: final harvest, before cold

Squash: all winter varieties, before hard frost

Pumpkins: harvest before frost, cure

Root crops: carrots, beets, turnips, harvest or mulch heavily
