Philosophy

Growing resilience through ancient wisdom and modern practice

← Back

Everything we do at The Loop Farmstead is grounded in a coherent philosophical framework. These are not abstract ideals. They are practical commitments that shape daily decisions, from what we plant to how we share knowledge.

Core Frameworks

🌱 Permaculture

A design system based on observing natural patterns and working with them. Three ethics: Earth Care, People Care, Fair Share.

🌾 Agroecology

Farming as an ecological practice. Knowledge passed from elder to youth, adapted to place, refined through generations.

⚡ Solarpunk

A future that is decentralized, beautiful, and appropriate. Technology serves communities, not corporations.

Key Principles

Refusal as Praxis

Not protest, but withdrawal. Not fighting the system on its terms, but building alternatives that make it irrelevant. The architecture of capture only works if you do not notice it.

Small is Necessary

Networks of small groups, not mass movements. Hive Node model: autonomous cells connected by shared values, not central authority. No single point of failure.

Trust Through Action

Verify by output, not credentials. We share what we learn freely. Knowledge hoarded dies with the keeper.

Long-Term Thinking

Planting for people you will never meet. 15-year grapes, 40+ fruit trees. We build beyond our own lifespan.

Technology as Tool

Decentralized, appropriate, community-serving. Ancient wisdom and modern tools work together. The aesthetic is resistance: earth tones, hand-made, visible repair.

Honest Labor

Earning keep through consistency, not hype. No cold calls, no persuasion. Just honest work, shared openly.

Economics of Enough

We operate on an economics of enough, not extraction:

  • Planting for people you will never meet — Long-term crops, legacy systems
  • Trust-based licensing — If you bought it, it is yours. Share it, gift it, install it everywhere
  • Impulse pricing — $2-15 for tools and courses. Accessible entry points
  • Revenue funds infrastructure — Not luxury. Every dollar goes back into land, tools, knowledge sharing
Withdrawal is life: pull your energy, attention, labor from extractive machines. You are not trapped. You are surrounded by doors you have been taught not to see.

Anti-Capitalism / Autonomy

We believe that exit from capitalist systems is not only possible, but necessary. Not through reform, but through building alternatives.

  • Exit, not reform — Build alternatives, do not fight the system on its terms
  • Withdrawal is life — Pull your energy, attention, labor from machines that grind you into profit
  • Mutual aid without permission — Help your neighbors, share what you have, build local resilience
  • Food sovereignty — Grow your own, save seeds, preserve your harvest
  • Infrastructure autonomy — Solar power, rain capture, decentralized technology
